"Fun has no age"

Painting Our World in Silver (‘Silver’) is a charity which brings older people together to engage in fun, interesting and educational activities with the aim of alleviating loneliness and creating new friendships.

Silver hosts free monthly ‘get-togethers’, open to everyone, usually on the third Wednesday of every month at the Village Hall in Whiteley Village from 10am until midday, with guest speakers, a craft session and refreshments.

According to Age UK, more than 2 million people over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people do not have regular social contact. This can lead to depression and a serious decline in health and wellbeing. By bringing elderly people together to engage in activities, Silver hopes to have a positive impact on lives, health and wellbeing amongst older people.

At Whiteley Village, Silver now has an established monthly event which is attended by up to 50 guests, however, their venue has the capacity for 80 and Silver's goal is to fill it. They also have established a partnership with Dial-A-Ride in Elmbridge who are now providing transport to Silver get-togethers; guests with no access to transport will be able to register with Silver to use this service to/from the monthly get-togethers at a subsidised cost of £5 return. For every guest that requires transport to a get-together, the cost to Silver is £5 per person - just call Helen and she will organise.
