WALTON
STROKE GROUP

SUPPORT GROUP FOR
STROKE SURVIVORS
& THEIR CARERS

Walton Stroke Group meets most Mondays from 10am to 1:30pm at the centre in Manor Road. It is affiliated to the Stroke Association.

The aim is to give stroke recoverers and their carers somewhere to go each week where they can enjoy the company of others in the same situation as themselves. There are now about thirty members and a number of voluntary helpers. Spouses/partners are welcome to stay if they wish, but may benefit from a free morning. Some transport is available.

The morning begins with chair exercises followed by a quiz, bingo or entertainment. Neuro-physiotherapy is available for members who need it. Lunch is served at 12:15pm.

The group also organises five or six half-day outings with a full-day trip in the summer. In October they have an annual dinner and there is a Christmas Lunch. In 2017 seventeen members went to Eastbourne for a week’s annual holiday by the sea.

Sick members are visited both in hospital and at home. If you would like to make a donation please contact the charity's treasurer Clare Sullivan on 07867 501162 or email clarecarolyne@hotmail.com

I was part of the first committee in 1987 as a volunteer. I then had a stroke myself, which left my right arm paralysed. The stroke group has been a wonderful part of my life ever since, with its outings, holidays and weekly meetings.

Monday mornings are the highlight of my life. I have been to so many places on outings and on holidays which I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.
